How to repair your lawn after grub damage.

How to help your lawn repair after grub damage.

If your lawn has been impacted by grubs, here are some tips of how to help your lawn repair itself.

1. Ensure grubs are fully removed.

Make a grub test: Take a bucket of soapy water and pour over an affected area (the grass is dry or brown). In about 10 minutes or so, if they are there, they will come up to the surface.

2. Rake out the dead material.

Remove any dry and dead material with a light raking. This will help the lawn recover and thicken up quicker. Don't remove too much of the grass runners as it can still grow back.

3. Water.

After a grub attack, many or most of your grass leaves may be gone, resulting in a significant loss of moisture from your lawn. To aid in recovery, make sure to water regularly during this period.

4. Mowing.

Ensure you still mowe frequently, it will encourage lateral growth and thickening of the lawn.

Mow enough so that only one third of the leaf is removed with each pass. This will reduce stress on the lawn.

5. Fertilising.

Don't fertilise until the lawn can green up naturally. It is best wait until the lawn has had about 50% recovery (green up) and then apply a fertiliser. Fertilising too early can cause extra stress.

We recommend Lawn Solutions Premium Fertiliser, which contains both fast and slow release granules to continue to release nutrients for up to 3 months.

6. Prevent another grub/armyworm attack.

To prevent another invasion of your lawn, apply a preventative insecticide.

We recommend Grub Guard Ultimate or Acelepryn, these are some of the safest insecticides on the market, and will protect the lawn for 6 months.
