When it is starting to get warmer, and the grass are beginning to grow. It is time to top dress and lawn care for real. Here are some tips to get started.
Kill any weeds.
- If is is humid and not too dry, it is easy to pull out most weeds. However, herbicide makes it easier, choose herbicide according to the weed/s you have in your lawn. Read more about weed control here.
- Choose a warm, dry day. Spray in the morning and spray the whole lawn.
- After about 10 days, spot spray any weeds still alive.
- Make sure to do it 7 days before or after you mow the lawn, not at the same time. The herbicide sits on eht leaves.
- We recommend Buffalo Master from Searles, a broad spectrum herbicide.
Mow the lawn.
- Mow the lawn on a high setting, make sure not to scalp it.
- Don’t mow the lawn directly after spraying for weeds. The herbicide sits on the leaves.
Top dress.
- To rejuvenate and feed your lawn, top dress with a 15 mm thick layer.
- Use the top dressing to level and fill in any gaps from weeds. The grass will knit back across any gaps.
- We recommend our own mix, Rocket top dressing, which promote strong quick growth and allows you to fill in gaps at the same time as feeding.
Water.
Water your lawn and increase amount of watering depending on weather and warmth.
